The Arabian Jockey Club exists to provide fundamental infrastructure and promotion for Arabian Racing and to illustrate the value of Race-bred Arabians in disciplines beyond racing.
Arabian racing was organized in the U.S. around 1959. After experiencing initial growth, today’s Arabian horses are finding their niche in the racing industry along with Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses and other breeds. In recent years new opportunities have arisen for competitive Arabian racehorses at major racetracks across the country. It is apparent that the Arabian’s acceptance into the racing world has been positive and that many betting interests are actually favoring Arabians.
Created by a broad cross section of Arabian racing enthusiasts, the AJC is a natural outgrowth of the Arabian Horse Association’s initial effort to support the expanding racing industry.
The AJC was officially chartered as a non-profit organization in December 1987 to represent Arabian racing in the U.S. In 1995, the AJC was reorganized and chartered as a Colorado corporation and is now under the auspices of the Purebred Arabian Trust.
The AJC also has the support and works closely with the Arabian Racing Cup, the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau and the Racing Commissioners International and is a member of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium. Since 1996, the AJC is represented on the Board of Stewards of the Arabian Racing Cup.

Established in 1983 by Dr. Sam Harrison, the Arabian Racing Cup is a nonprofit corporation currently run by its Board of Stewards. The Cup is dedicated to the national and international promotion of breeding and racing purebred Arabian horses. The Cup Races achieve both goals, and the Cup's breeder incentive initiative is the only national program that pays back specifically to the breeders of Arabian racehorses.
Each year, the Arabian Racing Cup determines which races will be designated Breeders’ Incentive Reward races. The Reward funds to the Breeder of Record of any fully nominated horses finishing first on designated races is rewarded $1,000. This money is paid out directly by the Arabian Racing Cup and is not part of the purse. Any funds not paid out is returned to the program pool to be eligible for future races. The program is designed so that monies paid in are distributed, a safe, fair, and fun way for all breeders to participate and enjoy Incentive Rewards for years to come.
Foundation of the Darley Awards
The Darley Awards were founded in 1987 and are the crowning jewel of the Arabian Racing Cup. This distinguished annual ceremony recognizes the most outstanding racehorses, jockeys, owners, trainers and breeders of the Arabian horse community. The Darley event is a solid tradition that became a foundation of American Arabian Racing- and has now evolved into a worldwide celebration.

The Colorado Arabian Breeders Alliance was created to preserve the Arabian breed standard, improve breeding quality, address the decline in Arabian breeding, and expand the horizon for effective marketing. Awareness, experience, education, and research are key components in our endeavor to enhance public perception of the Arabian horse, encourage intelligent, quality breeding practices, and develop sound marketing strategies.
The Arabian Breeders Challenge Futurity and the Colorado-Bred Racing Arabian Program, both integral to the Alliance Mission, will offer an opportunity to showcase offspring produced by Arabian and Half-Arabian Breeders; and reward the fruits of their labor, foster an undeniable pride of ownership, and, finally, promote having fun in the show ring, on the racetrack, over the trails, or in the back yard. To these ends, CABA and its members are united and dedicated.
Chairman - Jim Gromelski

Since the State of Texas offers pari-mutuel wagering on Arabian races with racetracks around the state hosting races for our breed, the Arabian horse is written into the Texas Racing Act as a racing breed along with the Thoroughbred, Quarter horse, Appaloosa and Paint. The Texas Arabian Breeders Association (TABA) is the organization mandated by the Texas Racing Commission to oversee the Accredited Texas Bred Program (ATB) for Arabian racehorses, a breeder incentive program.
Even in challenging conditions of the horse industry over the last decade, Texas Arabian racing has performed quite well. We have continued to strengthen both the Arabian breed's position in the racing industry, and the popularity of the racing discipline within the Purebred Arabian market. We are optimistic about increasing purse monies for the Arabian breed at the racetracks and will continue to make good progress for more racing opportunities. With a solid platform for growth, Arabian racing's innovative leaders are on track to attract more Arabian racing participants and fans of the sport.
